¿Why Umberto?

First off, a quick explanation as to why I call myself Umberto. Simple : My real name just sounds boring. So when the popularity of the world wide web came along, and people had to select usernames for myriad new accounts created all over the web, I decided for my accounts I'd use 'Umberto' as my first name. No particular reason other than I like the sound of saying 'Umberto'

I am starting this journal simply because I want to speak to my descendants. So, henceforth I will refer to you, the reader, as if you are in fact one of my descendants.

I want to share my feelings about life, family, and current events with you. Hopefully you are equally curious what one of your ancestors felt about his world, his life, his hopes, and his dreams.

All my life I have wondered what my predecessors did and, perhaps more importantly, felt during important U.S. or world events. For example, the US Civil War, or World Wars I and II. Were they worried about the outcome of these wars? Did they fear that the US would cease to exist? What about major inventions? How did the invention of the light bulb, the automobile and the telephone affect their lives?

Well, I will take my stab at answering such questions for you. I hope you continue to read on!
